‘I said to myself, I have things in my head that are not like what anyone has taught me - shapes and ideas so near to me - so natural to my way of being and thinking that it hasn't occurred to me to put them down.’

‘red desert river, pink’ / 2021

watercolour and ink on paper

Part of my pink desert series. I was fascinated when younger at how the rocks at night in the desert near Kata Tjuta and the river looked see through. I can't remember now much more than a glow and a throb of light. I also remember a blur of blue.

party at narrow neck / 2021acrylic, watercolour and ink on canvas In 2020, pink flannel flowers bloomed for the first time in 15 years at Narrow Neck in the Blue Mountains, on Gundungurra Country. The flowers only bloom after extreme bushfires, and after heavy rain. This made me reflect a lot on how explosive joy can be when any being comes to life in harsh conditions.

‘the catamarans / 2022

watercolour and ink on paper

When I was a child, I witnessed the Sydney to Hobart boat race firsthand. Much of my work deals in memory, landscape and mapping shapes and colour. The topography of this scene was busy, chaotic, and felt loudly visually jostling to watch.
